Role DescriptionWe are looking for a Materials Characterization Technician to support the development of our core technology by quantifying and describing the structure and function of materials within our battery systems. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with our Technical Operations team to prepare and measure samples that advance our understanding of the physical phenomena behind long-duration energy storage. To achieve success in this role, candidates should have experience working in laboratory settings, executing standard operating procedures, and maintaining organized work spaces.

What You'll Do:

  • Execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the preparation and measurement of materials in various characterization workflows
  • Measurement techniques serve to investigate metallurgical microstructures, amorphous powder homogeneity, porous materials wettability and elemental composition
  • Inform the development and launch of characterization tools and programs (such as Kanban or 5S) to increase efficiency of experimental operations
  • Support instrument upkeep and troubleshooting by interfacing with our internal Lab Operations team and external providers of preventative maintenance
  • Track sample status using a cloud-based organizational tool
  • Facilitate installation, assembly and maintenance of new analytical instruments

What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Laboratory experience with sample preparation and measurement utilizing metallurgical materials characterization techniques
  • Basic chemical hygiene and lab safety knowledge
  • Experience using cloud based organizational tools
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to share learnings with other lab operators and the broader organization
  • Positive attitude and appetite to learn and grow within our organization
  • High attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills
