The company is backed by a diverse set of committed investors and we have raised over $360M to date.Role DescriptionWe are developing an Iron-Air “rust” battery and are looking for a Materials Engineer to take a hands-on role in which you will develop and characterize high-performing alkaline air electrodes. The Materials Engineer will be responsible for the mechanistic understanding of electrode components, and coordinate electrochemical and materials characterization efforts using internal instruments and external resources. This position will work closely with electrochemical scientists and materials processing engineers to enable the transition from scientific understanding to high-performing materials to best-of-its-kind electrodes. This is an opportunity to have a direct and daily impact on one of the key system components in an exciting energy technology startup.

  • Characterize the electrochemical performance of new electrode components and formulations at the electrode level
  • Coordinate ex-situ (i.e. non electrochemical) materials characterization efforts with both internal and external resources
  • Work with external vendors for quality control and assurance of incoming materials
  • Create standard operating procedures for new, routine characterization efforts
  • Generate publication-quality internal reports to document all research activity and to propose future work

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, or related fields
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in electrochemical testing in either academia or industry (e.g.. RDE, EIS, cyclic voltammetry, constant current technique, constant potential technique, etc.)
  • Experience in material characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, ICP, XRD, BET, TGA, DSC)
  • Creative problem solving and critical thinking capability
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to teach and mentor colleagues on new methods and practices
