Role DescriptionYou will establish an electroplating project within the Cathode Team, dedicated to finding the right materials and electroplating processes to improve the performance and cost of our electrodes. This role is primarily hands-on and lab focused. You will work with suppliers to specify, purchase and set up equipment for your project and establish a baseline performance for your electroplating process. You will then use statistical process optimization methods (e.g. DOE, SPC, Gauge R&R) to improve the performance of the electrode. The ideal candidate will have experience with water electrolysis, mixed metal oxide catalysts, dimensionally stable anodes, or electroplating.


What You'll Do:

  • Develop electroactive electroplated coatings for aqueous air electrodes
  • Use electrochemical data to scope, bench trial and then down-select optimal electroplating materials and processes
  • Select, modify and prepare suitable substrates for electroplating and the operational battery environment
  • Engage suppliers, specify, procure and set up the required equipment while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards
  • Establish a baseline for your electroplating process
  • Materials characterization of electroplating layers
  • Coordinate electrochemical testing of new electrode materials
  • Optimization of your process towards company KPIs
  • Drive understanding of these electrodeposited materials and their performance in the Form Battery
  • Thoroughly document your work in accordance with company policy

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience with an electroplating technology or parallel field
  • Experience in batteries/ fuel cells/ electrolysis is preferred although not essential
  • Strong Materials or Process background
  • Ability to lead a project independently
  • Ability to stand up a new process from scratch
  • Commitment to safety
  • Curiosity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a diverse team
  • Experience with process optimization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or other related field
  • Years of experience: 3-5+  (level will be commensurate with experience)
