Job Description

Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing cost-effective multi-day energy storage systems to enable the global electricity system to run on 100% low-cost renewable energy, every day of the year. Driven by Form’s core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, our team is deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We seek to transform the energy landscape and do our part in making the world better for all. We are supported by leading investors who share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage will be a key enabler of tomorrow’s zero carbon electric system.
Role Description
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our battery cell product design team, a group responsible for developing the repeat electrode stack that is the building block of our commercial product. This team is responsible for delivering an electrode stack design that meets cost, performance, and manufacturing requirements for our product. This role will focus on designing, building, and testing a work-horse electrode stack and test stand, that service our internal testing needs and enable electrochemical performance improvements in our Somerville lab. You will work very closely with a talented group of mechanical, manufacturing, and battery engineers to optimize a design for manufacturing, assembly, and battery performance. The ideal candidate will exhibit an ability to creatively solve mechanical design challenges and subsequently impart rigorous design processes to ensure product success. This role provides an opportunity to lead the mechanical design of this cell stack while working with electrical, chemical, and battery engineering disciplines to ensure the design meets all of the battery requirements for our commercial product.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the design of the cell stack and test stand used for internal testing and performance development
  • Develop functional requirements in close collaboration with members of Form’s product and other technology development teams
  • Run an iterative design process, confirming that mechanical, electrochemical, assembly, and cost requirements are met
  • Work with suppliers to fabricate components with a variety of low and high volume manufacturing techniques
  • Perform hands-on prototyping of your designs
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume internal production
  • Collaborate with testing teams to define and execute validation test plans
  • Support the analysis of test data to enable data-based decision making
  • Champion for safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes or experiments

What You'll Bring:

  • BS required in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • Experience in computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Strong interdisciplinary communicator, across a range of engineering and business functions
  • Fabrication experience is a must
  • Demonstrated track record of innovative hardware design and engineering
  • Production design (DFMA) or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Battery experience is a plus
