Role DescriptionForm Energy’s approach to energy storage business development is uniquely data-driven and backed by an industry-leading analytics and software engineering function. The Staff Transmission Engineer position is vital to Form Energy and an opportunity for you to build our transmission engineering function from the ground up.
This role is critical in providing market expertise and guidance, contributing to Form Energy's transmission modeling capabilities, supporting buy-build-consult decisions on transmission modeling software, leading interconnection and siting analyses, managing external consultants, and guiding and supporting transmission and interconnection projects.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams from Business Development, Analytics, Product Management, Modeling and Controls, Software Engineering, Commercial Operations, and Project Engineering to successfully scope and deliver our modeling capabilities and delivery of projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Scope and guide the development of Form’s transmission engineering and analysis function, focusing on enabling key commercial outcomes
  • Support Form Energy’s Analytics Software Product Management team in developing transmission modeling capabilities within our capacity expansion and production cost models 
  • Lead the purchasing, setup, and use of third-party software (e.g. TARA, PSLF, PSS/E, UPlan) as needed
  • Either directly, or by managing consultants, develop power flow and dynamic models for utilities and ISOs/RTOs in support of project development activities
  • Evaluate interconnection costs and support the development of methods to incorporate these costs within other Form tools
  • Work closely with Form’s Commercial Operations and Project Engineering teams to guide siting efforts and manage interconnection activities, including studies and applications, for Form Energy, including a) Working with interconnection counterparties at ISOs/ RTOs, utilities, etc. to manage interconnection applications and submittals; b) Performing and reviewing interconnection studies and/or managing and reviewing consultant studies; c) Tracking key market dynamics (e.g. regulatory changes, ISO tariff changes, etc.) related to interconnection in partnership with other Form teams such as policy and regulatory affairs, federal policy, etc.; d) Assisting in preparation of drawings and designs for interconnection applications.; e) Managing consultants to complete above activities as needed
  • Act as a collaborative member of a distributed Business Development and Analytics team
  • Act as a critical individual contributor while the team is small, and shift the balance toward people management as the team grows

What You'll Bring:

  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, and climate change
  • Mid-to-senior level transmission or interconnection engineering or analyst experience within the renewable or utility industry or RTO/ISO market
  • Experience with software used in interconnection studies such as PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, PowerWorld, or UPlan
  • Detailed knowledge of interconnection procedures at utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and transmission providers
  • Well developed collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving that blends good judgment, strong commercial instincts, clear communication, follow-through, and creative use of resources
