Role DescriptionWe are looking for a Technical Manager to provide leadership to the Anode Advanced Manufacturing organization in our PA facility. This new team is preparing to scale up the manufacturing of iron-based anodes through a combination of bench-scale and pilot R&D equipment. The incumbent will shape the creation of the Anode Center of Excellence and have a meaningful impact on the first anode manufacturing pilot line. The role includes managing the dedicated staff of engineers and technicians, as well as the design, selection, purchasing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of various pieces of lab/pilot scale equipment. Ultimately, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the portfolio of Adv. Manufacturing projects, from selection to execution and reporting / closing. The position will require daily coordination with the other electrode and cell assembly teams that share the same building and resources. 

What You'll Do:

  • The core responsibility of this position is to accelerate and de-risk the scale up anode manufacturing through the execution of various applied R&D projects at the lab / pilot scales. The ultimate goal is to develop meaningfully unique IP solutions that will ensure the commercial success of Form Energy and make a positive impact to the planet
  • Prioritize environmental, health and safety at all times and be the steward of our teammates. The facility will be using furnaces, compressed gases and other potentially dangerous equipment. 
  • Build a world-class team of engineers, chemists, technicians etc. that exemplify Form Energy’s values
  • Interact with various teams to guarantee the success of Form’s Anode manufacturing: Cell development, Manufacturing, Supply-chain and others.

What You'll Bring:

  • A hands-on, lead-by-example leadership style
  • Engineering degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in an industrial or R&D setting
  • Advance degrees in metallurgical / process engineering are considered a plus but not required
  • A safety mindset, a practical experience in safety regulations (OSHA or MSHA) and knowledge of SJA, JHA, PHA and other safety assessment tools
  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of mineral processing and direct-reduction ironmaking
  • Experience with design, selection and operation of mineral processing equipment and direct reduction furnaces is highly desirable
  • A minimum of 5 years managing a diverse team, preferably in a R&D environment
  • A minimum of 5 years of R&D projects execution
  • Experience in project and portfolio management of lab / pilot scale development activities is a strong preference
  • Creativity, flexibility, adaptation and the ability to multi-task in order to successfully manage  different and often simultaneous projects
  • Ability to perform under pressure and within time constraints; sometimes with incomplete data or information
  • Clear communication (verbal and written) with teammates and the ability to work cross-functionally with a collaborative spirit
  • Ability to develop, write standard operating procedures and training documents
