Job Description

Running Tide is an ocean technology company built to tackle humanity's most urgent challenge: climate change. We build cutting-edge solutions that integrate engineered and biological systems to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, restore ecosystems, and secure food systems. Our multidisciplinary team of world-class scientists, engineers, and maritime operators is working as fast as possible while the world is burning.
We’re looking for a Communications Director to work with our Business Development, Policy, and Communications team. This person will drive external communications to build unwavering support of our work globally. The communication lead will be a creative and effective communicator who can craft stories that align with various stakeholder groups - government, non-profits, and customers.


You Will

  • Lead the development of Running Tides communications strategy and own implementation
  • Serve as editor-in-chief of all public facing communications including our website, written materials, and creative work
  • Own Running Tide’s relationship with the media and play a key role in how the world talks about our work and carbon removal in general
  • Play a key role in shaping the public discourse on climate change solutions, ocean science and technology, and public policy
  • Attend conferences, speak on panels, and serve as a key spokesperson for running tide

You Are (or You Have)

  • 8+ years communication experience
  • Unwavering commitment to excellence in everything you do and expect the same from those you work with
  • An exceptional writer and verbal communicator
  • A deep understanding of how to shape narratives in public discourse with well-executed communications strategy and implementation
  • Creative, but willing to roll up your sleeves to iron out the details 
  • Experience in communicating to a diverse set of stakeholders - government, non-profits, and customers 
  • Able to work with a high level of autonomy but are collaborative by nature
  • A leader, who has built teams from the ground up
  • Successfully implemented world-class communications campaigns from start to finish

Bonus Points

  • You have worked in green tech or clean energy
  • You have worked as a reporter on climate-related issues
  • Masters Degree or higher in engineering, business, or climate science-related field
  • You have worked on a global scale and can navigate different business cultures
  • Have worked at a high growth company and helped build it from the ground up
  • You have previous experience working within corporate sustainability 
  • Worked in public affairs or in public policy as a communications leader
  • You have experience working in or around the ocean sciences community
