Job Description

Running Tide is an ocean technology company built to tackle humanity's most urgent challenge: climate change. We build cutting-edge solutions that integrate engineered and biological systems to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, restore ecosystems, and secure food systems. Our multidisciplinary team of world-class scientists, engineers, and maritime operators is working as fast as possible while the world is burning.
Our Coastal team designs, builds and operates highly optimized shellfish and kelp farms that decarbonize protein production and restore coastal ecosystems at large scales. We're looking for a Deckhand/ Shellfish Farmer to begin as early as March 1st and will conclude on Dec 1st. There is the potential to extend this to a full-time role at the end of the season. 

You Have:

  • 1 year of aquaculture and/or commercial fishing experience. 
  • Workload of 40-50 hours/week on the water, with the expectation that workload may increase/decrease on an as needed basis. 
  • Must be able to work cohesively with a small team (3-4) where high levels of accountability and work ethic are needed every day.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly. 
  • Willingness to learn new skills. 
  • Ability to think quickly, critically and troubleshoot situations. 
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changes in the day’s plans with a positive and upbeat attitude. 
  • Willingness to grow with an exciting, fast-paced company.

Desired Boating Skills

  • Ability to handle dock lines when approaching or departing docks, wharfs, and moorings. 
  • Perform lookout duties while underway and also when disembarking from dock, wharf and moorings.
  • Uphold a high level of safety and seamanship.

You Will:

  • Arrive at boat ramp early and ready to work. 
  • Assist the captain and deck boss with the powering up of boat, the unloading and loading of gear and fueling. 
  • Assist deck boss and captain with the approach to lease site and the mooring of vessel at lease. 
  • Assist in the grading of small to market sized shellfish. 
  • Assist in the general upkeep and maintenance of all vessels worked on. 
  • On days when not working on the farm, the candidate(s) will be expected to help with other departments on the oyster farm.
