Running Tide’s Global Communications group is looking for a lead writer responsible for the editorial integrity of the company's public and internal communications. This is a hands-on role that includes writing new material; editing the work of colleagues; and working closely with senior executives, business development, marketing, and science teams to ensure that all our communications are of the highest quality.
The position entails writing and/or editing a wide variety of content, including but not limited to white papers and research summaries, speeches, bylined articles, RFP/RFI responses, board presentations, internal memos, website and marketing copy, press releases, video scripts, promotional copy, and customer reports. The individual will report to the Head of Business Development, Policy, and Communications, acting as a partner in shaping communications strategy and playing a leadership role in multi-faceted communications projects and campaigns.
The ideal candidate will quickly earn the respect of senior executives as an expert wordsmith who understands their strategic priorities and can consistently craft compelling copy. 
Qualified candidates should be comfortable handling multiple projects simultaneously, writing and editing under deadline, writing for C-level executives, and editing technical scientific writing. The position requires outstanding writing and editing skills; excellent verbal communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; the ability to maintain composure under pressure; comfort translating highly technical science; and the highest degree of integrity working with confidential material.  
This role is remote.

You Will

  • Write and edit content for runningtide.com (including for launch of new website in 2022)
  • Write and edit carbon removal educational materials for a wide range of stakeholders
  • Write and edit press releases
  • Write and edit Running Tide’s response to RFPs, RFIs, and policy proposals 
  • Write and edit internal strategic communications 
  • Write speeches for senior executives
  • Serve as a resource for business group leaders around the firm, which may include writing speeches, bylined articles, editing memos or letters, and other ad hoc communications

You Are (or You Have)

  • A world-class writer and editor
  • Minimum 8 years of experience
  • Experience as a writer/editor for senior executives
  • Experience editing science/technical writers and non-writers
  • Self-confidence and a thick skin for managing constructive criticism
  • Ability to process a significant amount of complex information and synthesize it into clear communications
  • Ability to write and edit copy quickly when necessary
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/roles in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational ability; can project manage and deliver writing projects against deadlines.
  • Highest level of integrity and discretion
  • Sharp eye for typos, grammar mistakes, and awkward phrasings
  • Experience writing/editing for different media (print, digital, spoken word)
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule based on department and company needs

Bonus Points

  • You have worked as a reporter on climate or ocean-related issues
  • Degree engineering or climate science-related field
  • You have worked on a global scale and can navigate different business cultures
  • Have worked at a high growth company and helped build it from the ground up
  • You have previous experience working within corporate sustainability 
  • Worked in public affairs or in public policy in a communications role
  • You have a clearly defined opinion on the Oxford Comma
