Job Description

Running Tide is an ocean technology company built to tackle humanity's most urgent challenge: climate change. We build cutting-edge solutions that integrate engineered and biological systems to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, restore ecosystems, and secure food systems. Our multidisciplinary team of world-class scientists, engineers, and maritime operators is working as fast as possible while the world is burning.
We are expanding our engineering team and are looking for a mechanical engineer experienced in design, analysis, fabrication and testing. This person is highly driven and excels at working cross functionally, has experience in making things work in remote and extremely challenging operational environments, and has excellent project management skills. The right person is curious, motivated to solve complex challenges, and driven to create novel ways to reverse climate change.

You Will

  • Design, build, test and rapidly iterate on ocean based systems including our in house designed data buoys and associated systems.
  • Collaborate closely and positively with cross functional teams (Operations, Fabrication, Electrical Engineering, Software, Research) to gather a varying sets of requirements and deliver complete solutions.
  • Translate working prototype solutions to scalable systems.
  • Move from design to prototype very quickly. 
  • Work with vendors, advisors and other third parties to prioritize speed and momentum.

You Are (or You Have)

  • Comfortable in 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred)
  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical engineering
  • Hands-on experience with shop tools as well as best practices for manufacturing components utilizing CNC machining, welding, additive manufacturing, composite layup, and hand fabrication techniques.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, willingness to learn and teach
  • Ability to iterate quickly
  • Experience owning projects
  • Experience with hand calculations and analytical software for completing FEA

Bonus Points

  • Ocean based engineering design or test experience
  • Operational maritime experience
