SUMMARY

Nexamp is seeking a Communications Field Technician to join the Asset Management Team. The Communications Field Technician will be working closely with the Nexamp Energy Center. The NEC monitors our solar and storage assets seven days a week, and provides monitoring and data analysis to maintain the fleet in top operating condition, generate revenue, and maximize community solar distributions. The NEC requires a dedicated communication specialist to keep fleet communications online and data flowing. This position will report to the Director, Service. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support commissioning of data acquisition system equipment to establish communications conductivity.
  • Utilize strong problem-solving skills to assess break and fix options remotely and determine follow-on actions.
  • Work with field teams to trouble shoot and resolve communications issues on site.
  • Identify and onboard partners in all regions to support installation and service.
  • Work with cellular providers to implement technology to better serve Nexamp power plants.
  • Research and implement new technology to upgrade current and future installations.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, hands-on, results-oriented, and a team player.

Key qualifications include:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience within cellular communications.
  • Skilled at communicating with various field equipment using protocols such as TCP/IP and Modbus.
  • Possesses networking skills, basic understanding of VPNs, IP addressing, and subnets.
  • Experience with hard line and cellular networks, M2M cellular modems, routers, gateways, antennas, and signal boosters.
  • Understanding of Windows OS components and prior experience with Linux.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors, possibly on ladders, roofs, and near electrical production equipment found on solar arrays.
  • Preferred understanding of electrical meters, power, voltage, amperage, and ability to work a multimeter. Candidate should be able to use electrical tools, cable crimping tools, and occasionally power tools.
  • SCADA systems and programming experience preferred.
  • Skilled at directional antenna use, and cellular signal troubleshooting and improvement.
