We are looking for an experienced and mission-aligned Principal Scientist to join the Product Development & Commercialization team that primarily works on scaling up new products and manufacturing processes. You will be a technically savvy, motivated leader who has the opportunity to implement pilot and plant scale trials, product testing and ultimately transfer new products and processes to manufacturing plants (did we mention our products are very cool and delicious!). We are looking for people with an enthusiasm for science, a passion for creating products to change the world, and who have a proven track record in product development and scale up. You will cross-functionally lead the scale up of new products, guide the team’s research, design experiments, analyze data, and engineer solutions. Overall, we are seeking a leader who can inspire, ideate, mentor and foster good practices rooted in the scientific method.


You Will:

  • Provide technical leadership to multiple project teams responsible for developing new delicious and nutritious plant-based meat products to delight Impossible Foods consumers.
  • Research and develop food and/or processing technologies and product building blocks.
  • Execute pilot and plant scale trials, product testing and transfer new products and processes to manufacturing plants.
  • Develop, conduct, and analyze experiments using design of experiment philosophy.
  • Transfer new products and processes to multiple manufacturing plants.
  • Proactively collaborate cross-functionally and manage multiple projects that adhere to fast timelines.
  • Collaborate with Packaging, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams on product design.
  • Mentor team members to ensure good adherence to scientific principles and methods.
  • Some travel required.

You Have:

  • PhD in Food Science or a related field.
  • 15+ yrs of experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully commercializing & launching products.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects with fast timelines, novel processing equipment, and across multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Self starter with the ability to thrive in a diverse, dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to continuously challenge assumptions to seek innovative solutions.
  • Track record of strong project management skills.
  • Mentorship experience.
  • Managerial experience (nice to have).
