Job Description

Our Calibration, Localization, and Mapping (CLAMS) team is responsible for building the algorithms and tools necessary for keeping Zoox vehicles well calibrated, always knowing where they’re located within the world, and aware of their environment.
The team has offerings within Mapping and Calibration; candidates will be matched to the team that best fits their skill set and team’s needs.
MappingIn this role, you will help us build state-of-the art mapping pipelines that combine data from a wide variety of sensors as well as localization algorithms that make use of these maps in real-time. We're looking for an engineering student in an advanced degree program, who has experience building mapping and localization systems.
CalibrationIn this role, you will work on Zoox’s calibration pipeline. Calibration is the process of understanding the true relationships of sensors, between each other and the vehicle body, to allow for a crisp and consistent view of the world. Help us develop technology that improves calibration algorithm performance and execution time. Work with data from all on-vehicle sensors, on a large-scale compute cluster, verifying the results with state-of-the-art automated metrics.  We're looking for an engineering student in an advanced degree program, who has experience working with either point cloud data or projective geometry.
Both sub teams are looking for C++ wizards who aren't scared of a challenge, and are excited to help Zoox build incredible software.

Requirements

  • Currently working towards an M.S., Ph.D. or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program and within 1 year of graduation
  • Minimum of a 3.5 gpa
  • At least one previous industry internship or co-op in relevant area
  • Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California
  • Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of C++
  • Experience with pose estimation, SLAM, probabilistic filtering, and 3D data
  • Strong mathematics skills
  • Extensive experience with algorithm design, programming, and/or software architecture
  • Experience with calibration techniques and data types: point cloud processing and projective geometry (computer vision techniques)
