Job Description

Fleet Operations is at the vanguard of operations at Zoox, and is charged with executing requirements across vehicle operations, test planning, tele-operations, rider operations and the post-build engineering support to our complete robot fleet; both Level 3 (retrofitted Toyota Highlander test fleet) and Level 5 (purpose built) vehicles. Fleet Operations will be the team to manage the robotaxi service of our ground-up, purpose built L5 robot fleet in the very near future.
As the head of Program Management, Fleet Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the team meets and exceeds its planning and execution responsibilities for both team and company-wide milestones. They will do this by managing a team of program and project managers who support operational and technical domains. This role requires a seasoned, data-driven program management professional who can develop and enhance planning processes, work extremely well across teams, and communicate effectively up to and including CEO and CTO level to drive company-wide strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Leading an awesome team of program/project managers with empathy and expertise to optimize program/project management within the Fleet Operations organization 
  • Developing long term planning processes to manage our testing and service operations while minimizing risk 
  • Providing effective prioritization and delegation, working closely with the Director, and other leadership, to proactively identify risks and mitigation strategies to de-risk and accelerate goals 
  • Working with the team management to foster data-driven decision making through the development and tracking of key dashboards and risk management tools
  • Assisting to ensure the highest levels of safety are being implemented and followed in Fleet Operations 
  • Building strong relationships with executives and other key stakeholders, such as Hardware and Software teams, and the Program Management Office, to provide understanding of the current state of operations and forecast availability of resources
  • Working effectively in the gray space; bringing clarity to uncertainty, to enable tactical and strategic decision making 
  • Providing key support to the Director of Fleet Operations by being a first point of contact for all program execution
  • Maintaining a strong technical understanding of our vehicle platforms and operations
  • Leading weekly/monthly/quarterly program meetings and our quarterly planning process

Qualifications

  • 8+ year of operations, management consulting and/or large scale technical program management experience
  • Experience in developing and leading high-performance, cross-functional teams to achieve desired outcomes with internal and external teams
  • Data driven, and have developed, and managed, company-wide data metrics to support strategic (C-level) decision-making
  • Effectively managed and developed a team of project and program managers across disciplines
  • Proficient in tools or processes required to manage complex projects (i.e. Gantt charts, risk matrix, status reports, etc.)
  • Ability to concisely and effectively communicate at all levels of an organization
  • Managed change processes, developed program planning processes and risk mitigation solutions 
  • BA/BS in engineering management, business or associated degree

Bonus Qualifications

  • PMP or equivalent
  • MBA, MA, MS degree
