Job Description

As an Engineer in System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA), you will be responsible for developing SW tools (Python, C++) as well as run performance and safety analysis for the localization solution. You will simulate and analyze faults for sensors, computers, and control modules comprising the localization system to contribute to the definition of functional safety requirements. You will work closely with hardware / software developers and test engineers to fully cover the capability of Zoox’s localization system based on the processing of large quantities of data. 

Responsibilities

  • Understand the localization subsystem and its interactions with other subsystems
  • Plan, write, and execute simulations or tests on different platforms (software in the loop (SIL), Hardware in the loop (HIL)), coordinating with multiple teams including vehicle engineering, firmware, and calibration/localization/mapping
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues found testing. 
  • Perform test data analysis and trace failures to correct subsystems and work with cross-functional development teams to identify the root cause and solve them.
  • Run performance or safety analysis, write the  study report, and present the results to a cross functional audience 

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in Automotive Engineering, Aerospace or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with localization algorithms
  • Proficiency with scripting and/or systems programming languages: Python, C, C++
  • Experience with data-driven engineering

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prefer experience with debugging skills (ie debugging large ensembles of worker runs)
  • Familiarity with protobufs
  • Experience with the best practices, code reviews, and code quality of software companies
  • Experience with system safety
