Job Description

As a Systems Engineer in System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA), you will be responsible for building the Safety Case for the localization solution. You will analyze faults for sensor, computer, and control modules comprising the localization system to develop functional safety requirements. You will work closely with hardware and software developers, design and test engineers to fully capture functional safety requirements and the capability of Zoox’s localization system to achieve system-level safety goals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed simulation studies, review results and integrate into requirements rationale
  • Lead and participate in quantitative and qualitative functional safety activities that lead to the development of Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEAs) or Failure Mode Effects & Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA)
  • Solve complex technical problems related to localization, calibration, and safety of the vehicle 
  • Develop and document system level functional safety requirements
  • Review, approve and provide guidance for architecture proposals and design verification plans

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher degree in Automotive, Aerospace, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • System development experience within standards such as: ISO-26262, ISO-21448, ARP4754A, ARP4761 (or other regulated fields)
  • 3+ years of work experience with localization/navigation/mapping systems, algorithms or data fusion solution
  • Proficiency with software development process, able to contribute and provide in-depth code review for analysis tools, probe for issues/improvement
  • Proficiency for scripting and/or systems programming language: Python, C++

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive compute and/or control systems
  • Experience with Lidar, Radar, Cameras, IMUs
