Job Description

The Program Management Office (PMO) at Zoox is responsible for driving cross-functional program planning and execution at the highest level. We partner with leaders from across the company in vehicle development, system design, software engineering, manufacturing, fleet operations, and business functions to develop and deliver major corporate milestones on the path to launch and beyond.  Our program managers contribute to the end-to-end success of technical, integrated product milestones involving both of our vehicle platforms - the Toyota Highlander test fleet and Zoox’s purpose-built robotaxi. PMO has teams focusing on AI & Autonomy, Robot Platform Development, Testing & Performance, and Service/Product readiness. All roles are deeply cross-functional, collaborative, and interdisciplinary. A Technical Program Manager (TPM) in PMO is an experienced program management expert and cross-functional lead with strong communication skills who thrives in ambiguity and has a systems mindset to see the big picture. They will deliver the program and simultaneously improve the quality and predictability of our execution by guiding the maturation of our processes and methods over time. By working closely with software and hardware engineering leaders, workstream TPMs, and other leads within the PMO, this person will be responsible for strategic planning and execution of technical and integrated product milestones for our vehicle platforms as we accelerate towards our company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Work with program managers and leaders to translate the top-down corporate strategy and milestones into detailed roadmaps, timelines, and deliverables
  • Work with cross-functional teams and finance to define and then track resource requirements (headcount and budget)
  • Ensure Zoox’s high bar is consistently being met across every relevant program domain and that every team understands what they need to deliver at all times
  • Define and manage process and program review meetings
  • Establish standard reports to provide concise and effective communications to key stakeholders on program status, next steps, issues/risks, and accomplishments
  • Ensure problems are transparent and risks are identified early. Proactively ensure that risk-mitigating actions are ongoing within the functional teams so that late surprises are minimized.
  • Collaborate with software developers and issue management TPMs to provide test feedback, findings, and burn-down issues.
  • Define KPIs and other methods to measure metrics that best translate progress toward goals
  • Manage interdependencies and integration among multiple projects, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Support execution of milestones and take it across the finish line with all stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a strong technical understanding of our vehicle platforms, software lifecycle, safety clearance process, and test operations.
  • Effectively communicate goals, status, risks, and wins to all levels of the organization

Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience in hardware, software, or systems engineering, program management, or management consulting, with a focus on product launches and/or validation and testing
  • Success in driving SW/HW integration processes and optimizations 
  • Proven track record in managing complex cross-functional projects end to end
  • Proficient in tools or processes required to manage complex projects (i.e. Gantt charts, risk matrix, Smartsheet, Jira, Confluence,  etc.)
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills are a must, as is the ability to create clear visualizations of KPIs, program plans, and complex topics

Bonus Qualiifications

  • PMP certification or equivalent
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, test platforms, simulation, and/or safety-critical automotive or aerospace processes is highly desired
  • Strong references that highlight your ability to build strong working relationships with senior leaders, program managers, and engineers across functions and departments
