We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.We’re Hiring for a Sr. Firmware Engineer! The Role:  Xylem seeks to hire a motivated and experienced Embedded Software Engineer (Firmware Engineer) who will be part of an R&amp;D team responsible for the sustaining engineering of electro-optic and electro-chemical based sensing platforms.  Responsible for enhancements, bug fixes and quality issues pertaining to YSI’s products containing embedded firmware.  This role reports to the Engineering Manager of Business Continuity and Improvement.Core Responsibilities:<ul><li>Develop microcontroller firmware for YSI’s advanced sensing, logging and telemetry technologies.</li><li>Creation, documentation and implementation of data acquisition, processing, filtering, and communication algorithms to properly collect environmental information.</li><li>Interface with firmware, software and hardware engineers to provide seamless integration of products into larger systems.</li><li>Attention to speed, power draw and architectural impact to larger systems will be required.</li><li>Interface with product management, sales personnel, and customers to specify product requirements and provide detailed technical assistance.</li><li>Perform product support responsibilities such as maintenance, upgrades, and release and creation of technical and support documentation. </li><li>Generate detailed embedded software requirements specifications from high-level product specifications, then drive the development of the software architecture, design, implementation, integration and testing of firmware applications.</li><li>Candidate will be responsible for planning and estimating his/her work as a part of the project planning process.</li><li>Candidate will participate in a cross functional team-based environment.</li></ul><ul><li>Determine theoretical and practical limitations to sensing specifications through laboratory experimentation and R&amp;D prototype builds.</li><li>Support other members of the R&amp;D development and Manufacturing Engineering teams.</li><li>Evaluate new technologies, methods and products to determine viability for commercialization.</li><li>Ensure that all work is thoroughly documented and organized for future reference. This will include helping to create ECO (Engineering Change Orders)</li></ul>Required Qualifications:<ul><li>Minimum BS in Computer Engineering with 4+ years of experience.</li><li>Expert knowledge with Embedded C, embedded microcontroller peripheral modules, communication standards, simulation, breakpoints and debugging.</li><li>Knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, including the ability to read a schematic and PCB layout for use during firmware debug sessions.</li><li>Solid communications skills, both verbal and written. Ability to articulate very technical concepts to non-technical team members and ability to mentor others.</li><li>Ability to utilize basic bench-top equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, protocol analyzers or meters during development phases to analyze firmware interaction with hardware.</li><li>Ability to work with a cross-functional R&amp;D/Engineering team.</li><li>Hands on approach – Customer first attitude.</li><li>Ability to work in a product development environment operating under project schedules and timelines.</li><li>Ability to follow company safety guidelines.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Knowledge of software communication protocols:  MODBUS, RS-232, RS-485, and SDI-12.</li></ul><ul><li>Exposure to environmental sensing and/or life science technology is a plus.</li></ul>NOTE: Xylem does not provide visa sponsorship for this position Join the global Xylem team to be a part of innovative technology solutions transforming water usage, conservation, and re-use.
