ALL TOOLS WILL BE SUPPLIED. *** The Maintenance Intern will receive on-the-job training on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and will assist with minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations and Company standards  Key Responsibilities: Interns will gain experience and training in the following areas:• Preventive Maintenance Procedures<ul><li>Conduct inspections and scheduled maintenance on garbage trucks and other waste handling equipment.</li></ul>• Diagnostics and Troubleshooting<ul><li>Assisting with identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.</li></ul>• Repairs and Rebuilds<ul><li>Supporting minor and major repair tasks under supervision, including brakes, engines, hydraulics, and welding.</li></ul>• Safety and Compliance<ul><li>Learning proper PPE, OSHA safety protocols, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.</li></ul>• Environmental Awareness<ul><li>Understanding the environmental regulations and best practices related to equipment and waste operations.</li></ul> Requirements:<ul><li>Basic mechanical knowledge and tool usage skills</li><li>Must be 18+ years old with a valid driver's license</li><li>Ability to work in a physically demanding and outdoor environment</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities • Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles • Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of the company fleet • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers • Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and trust • Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines • Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills • Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions • Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement • Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects (repetitively) • Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example: two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing • Ability to make simple and repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques • Ability to follow all company safety policies and procedures Working Conditions The Maintenance Apprentice must work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. May be exposed to unpleasant sights, smells, and to dangerous and/or toxic substances. Physical Demands Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: • Employee is regularly required to speak and listen • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling • Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc. • Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
