We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to join our growing team. This role will oversee the design, technical strategy, and innovation of solar PV systems, while playing a critical role in supporting business development efforts related to Independent Power Producer (IPP) sales.  The Director of Engineering will ensure high-quality, cost-effective designs and act as a technical advisor during the origination, proposal, and execution phases of customer projects.  The Director of Engineering reports directly to the CEO.<h1 style="margin-left:16px;">Duties/Responsibilities:</h1>Engineering Leadership<ul><li style="margin-left:48px;">Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Engineering Department, ensuring design excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Develop and implement technical standards, tools, and processes to ensure high-quality, code-compliant designs that maximize project value and system performance.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities, ensuring that all designs, materials, and construction deliverables meet established standards of performance, reliability, and compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Lead engineering resource planning, team development, recruiting, mentoring, and training efforts.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Review and approve engineering plans, drawings, calculations, and specifications.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Coordinate with Project Management, Construction, and Procurement teams to ensure designs are aligned with budget, schedule, and constructability requirements.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Stay informed on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory updates impacting solar system design and implementation.</li></ul>Key Customer Interface<ul><li style="margin-left:48px;">Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert during Independent Power Producer (IPP) project origination, proposals, and sales processes.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Provide technical expertise and preliminary design support to Commercial &amp; Industrial (C&amp;I) sales teams during customer engagement, project scoping, and proposal development.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and technical discussions to assess project feasibility and present Melink Solar’s technical capabilities.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Collaborate with the Project Execution team to prepare preliminary designs, energy yield estimates, system performance modeling, and technical content for IPP proposals and RFP responses.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Support risk analysis for IPP projects, including site evaluation, grid interconnection constraints, permitting challenges, and technology selection.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Assist in developing and reviewing contractual scopes of work, performance guarantees, and owner’s engineering documentation to ensure alignment with technical capabilities and project goals.</li></ul>Strategic Contributor<ul><li style="margin-left:48px;">Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, including the development of new product offerings (e.g., storage, microgrids, hybrid solutions).</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Identify opportunities for innovation in system design, technology adoption, and design-to-value engineering.</li><li style="margin-left:48px;">Support project financing structuring efforts, including build-own-operate models, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and third-party ownership structures, from a technical perspective.</li></ul><h1 style="margin-left:16px;">Required Skills &amp; Qualifications:</h1><ul><li style="margin-left:8px;">Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred).</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">7+ years of experience in solar PV design and engineering, including at least 3+ years managing engineering teams.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Proven experience supporting sales or business development, preferably within the IPP or utility-scale solar sector.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Deep understanding of solar PV systems, NEC code compliance, utility interconnection processes, and system performance modeling (PVSyst, Helioscope, etc.).</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Strong knowledge of EPC project lifecycles, from origination through commissioning.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, including Business Development, Project Management, Construction, and Finance.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Highly organized, results-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.</li></ul><h1 style="margin-left:16px;">Preferred Qualifications:</h1><ul><li style="margin-left:8px;">Experience supporting energy storage (BESS) and hybrid solar+storage systems.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Familiarity with financial modeling for renewable energy projects.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Experience in utility-scale PV and distributed generation markets.</li><li style="margin-top:1px;margin-left:8px;">NABCEP PVIP Professional Certification.</li></ul><h1 style="margin-left:16px;">Physical Requirements:</h1><ul><li style="margin-left:8px;">Ability to traverse and inspect job sites in various weather conditions, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, and stretching.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Exposure to common construction site hazards.</li></ul> Melink Solar is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
