PMTS Mechanical Design Engineer

QuantumScape is seeking a Mechanical or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team to support the design and development of critical process equipment.  The position will focus on hands-on hardware design and development with the goal of identifying scalable concepts for volume production. 
We are a stealth start-up energy storage technology company, located in San Jose, California working on a fundamental disruption in the field of energy storage. We seek to change the paradigm in energy storage by developing a completely new class of electrical energy storage device. If successful, the technology could revolutionize the industry. We are backed by top VC firms and based on work done by researchers at Stanford University.

This role includes the creation of mechanical designs to accomplish specific process goals, iterative hands-on design / verification, and the emphasis on scalable equipment design.  
You will work in concert with other engineers and scientists and will be responsible for driving and completing assigned projects through all stages of the design process, including specification, design, prototyping, assembly and testing.  
Experience and education 
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field 2-10 years of work experience Experience in mechanical design 
Key Technical Qualifications: 
Experience with mechanism, hardware, and/or equipment design Demonstrated knowledge of component manufacturing (machining, 3D printing, sheet metal forming) Proficient with 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred, but applicants with experience using other similar CAD systems, such as Solidworks, will also be seriously considered)Experience with basic machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, drill press, etc.)  Additional Qualifications: High level of creativity and energy A demonstrated capability to innovate A strong passion for mechanical design and working with your hands Excellent communication and teamwork skills Strong presentation skills Project management skills Desire to work in a fast-paced environment Autonomous working style 
 Job Description: 
Conceptualize and develop mechanical designs as part of a larger design and development team. Collect information and feedback from scientists and design team members to fully understand design specifications. Lead design review meetings to fully vet current designs and to quickly drive design maturity to a level where parts can be ordered. Personally build prototype designs to validate design intent and fit.
