Our quick progress is due in part to a state-of-the-art facility, highly automated data collection and analysis, an outstanding team, and a strong and clear set of values. QuantumScape is seeking a highly-motivated Principal Materials (Cathode) Process Engineer - PMTS to lead process development and scaling for our next generation of cathodes. You will learn how the technology works, and serve as a bridge between new materials development and integration. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Characterize physical properties of solid-state materials and understand their relation to process control and downstream impact
  • Develop and optimize scalable suite of processes that are aligned with the platform goals
  • Qualify and introduce scaled-up processes to align with ramp plans
  • Establish quality control specifications for the processes and materials of interest
  • Perform data analysis and develop control charts

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Materials Science (or a related field) and proven experience (>5 years) with process development in the battery industry
  • Hands-on experience with processes such as casting, slurry coating, and calendaring
  • Prior experience with technology transfer and FMEA principles
  • Experienced in safe laboratory practices, especially in handling hazardous chemicals
  • Conversant with various testing platforms for battery materials
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Proficient in JMP and/or Python for the application of statistical methods for experiment planning, data analysis, and process control
  • Comfortable working in a glovebox, dry room, or fume hood

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • PhD with 5 years or MS with 10 years of battery experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading activities pertaining to tool specification, purchase and bring-up
  • Prior experience in leading and mentoring teams
  • Experiences in championing and nurturing the culture of statistical approaches and data analytics

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time.
  • May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist.
  • May be required to use hand or power tools.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, push and extend arms.
