We have enabled a step-change in performance with a different chemistry and cell architecture that also benefits safety.  Do you want to make a contribution to this critical part of the future energy economy? As a member of our analytical team, you will develop state-of-the-art material characterization methods to convert physical signal to electrical signal and versa vice!  We have a need for a Senior Product Engineer - Senior Member of Technical Staff  (SMTS) to join our Cell Engineering and Process Development team. As part of this Product Engineering team, you will develop cell prototypes, test platforms, and production processes to help put this technology on the road.


ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop and execute experiments for characterizing and validating cell materials and components
  • Develop advanced characterization techniques and maintain equipment for both testing materials properties as well as battery performance
  • Analyze battery test data and generate high-quality experimental results to inform data-driven decisions
  • Conduct cell failure analysis and provide feedback to improve cell design and assembly process

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or MS in materials science, chemical engineering, applied physics, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in materials/batteries research and development; BS with a minimum of 5 years experience in materials/batteries research

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Deep understanding of lithium/lithium-ion battery materials, cell manufacturing, and qualification processes
  • Deep knowledge of physicochemical and structural characterization of cell materials and components using various analytical techniques (XRD, SEM-EDX, TEM, XPS, DSC/TGA, X-ray tomography, etc.)
  • Understanding of the properties and trade-offs of engineering materials and processes
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and repeatability/reproducibility techniques
  • Proven experience with tolerance analysis and familiarity with failure modes and effects analysis
  • Skilled in quality management processes
  • Familiarity with JMP software, design of experiment, and statistical analysis
  • Excellent data analysis and presentation skills
  • Love working closely with a team in an energizing environment
