Job Description

Location: Flexible in UK - Hybrid Working

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

As OVO moves closer to 5m customers, we are starting to reshape our data teams to enable our strategy to provide a world leading, carbon net zero, and digitally enabled experience. The data teams operate in a federated structure, with both central and embedded teams, to support our growing scale and ambition.

Reporting into the Product Analytics Lead, you will be aligned to a Product domain supporting multiple product teams with data analytics. You’ll be tackling our most important customer experiences and the digital journeys that surround them, including areas like energy propositions, low carbon initiatives, multi-product account management and electric vehicles.

We're a fast-paced organisation going through an exciting period of growth, and as such the projects you work on will vary in size and scope on a frequent basis.

What will I be doing?

  • Collaborate with the Heads of Product / Product Managers to ensure they are supported with the data insights they need to be effective. This includes managing incoming requests and promoting opportunities for analytics to help them achieve their goals.
  • Develop and implement user friendly reports that support self-serve performance analysis & decision making in OVO’s digital product teams.    Analyse user flows and interactions on our digital products (website, app), with a view to providing insight that guides strategy and development.
  • Working in cross-functional teams including UX and software engineering.
  • Lead the implementation of online tracking journeys, allowing us to create a clear picture of our members’ digital journeys and their performance.
  •  Utilise a range of data sources, including ‘offline’ customer data, to deepen our understanding of customer behaviour and the impact of product developments.
  • Design and analyse A/B tests to optimise user interactions and make our online proposition as smooth as possible.
  • Take an active role ensuring data is considered in all stages of the product life cycle (scoping, planing, building, post-release analysis)
  • Promote best practice, guiding stakeholders and other analysts of various levels in the use of data and analysis techniques.
  • Promote ethical best practice in the way all data is used and processed, always ensuring compliance and security is placed first.

Is this the job for me?

Essential skills and experience:

  • 3+ years in a similar data or analytical role.
  • Experience working with product or web analytics solutions, e.g. Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Amplitude, Infinity, or similar
  • You will be experienced in core analysis technologies, with excellent SQL & Excel/Sheets skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills - able to articulate results clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
  • Can confidently build and present meaningful data visualisations, in Excel/Sheets and ideally a dashboarding platform such as Tableau.
  • Can interpret graphical representations of data and make recommendations.
  • Statistical knowledge including sampling, significance, hypothesis testing and basic probability theory
  • Highly numerate & analytical, able to delve into the detail but understand the strategic view
  • Able to document and version control your work so others can pick it up and build on it
  • Proven ability to engage productively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment where prioritisation is required

Ideally you will have…

  • Education to degree level in a numeric, scientific or engineering discipline
  • Experience in cloud data services, Google Cloud Platform (especially BigQuery), AWS, etc
  • Experience with an AB testing framework (e.g. Optimizely, Target etc)
  •  An understanding of basic programming principles such as names, types, lists, arrays, control flow, exceptions
