Job Description

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable longer range, faster charging and enhanced safety in electric vehicles to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

Quantumscape is a start-up located in San Jose, California working on new energy storage technology to allow electric vehicles to outperform internal combustion cars. Our leap in energy density and charge rate is enabled by different chemistry and cell architecture which also benefits safety. Our quick progress is due in part to a state-of-the-art facility, highly automated data collection and analysis, an outstanding team, and a strong and clear set of values.
Do you want to be a part of this critical part of the future energy economy? As a member of the Cell Process Improvement team, you will work with multi-functional teams -- cell assembly and production processes meet custom hardware design -- to actually put this technology on the road. We do what it takes to make Quantumscape's fundamental technological breakthroughs into a commercial cell.
Responsibilities:
Bridge the gap between process needs and hardware possibilities; specify cell assembly tool requirements to hardware team and external vendors.
Perform acceptance tests and develop processes with new cell assembly tools.
Develop tools and processes to improve manufacturing throughput while maintaining cell performance.
Design and execute experiments to evaluate new tools/processes and bring them to our production lineWork with a team to root cause and address problem statements.
Communicate results to the broader team.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficient with 3D CAD software (Inventor, Solidworks, or similar) for the design of complex mechanical or mechatronic assemblies.
Understanding of design for manufacturability.
Knowledge of statistical process control and repeatability/reproducibility techniques.
Experience designing, developing or working with tooling for precision processes.
Experience designing, programming, or working with robotic systems is a plus.
You learn and adapt quickly.
You have explained or presented your projects and progress in team settings.
You love working closely with a team in a fast-paced and energizing environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 2+ years of work experience or B.S. and 5+ years of work experience.
You share a real passion for our mission!
