User Experience Research

In order to make the shopping and selling experience as delightful as possible, we are seeking a Senior UX Researcher to join our growing team and company.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in the user experience of our marketplace, as we take on new challenges, update existing flows, add new features, and expand into new markets. You are a champion for our users who embraces the challenge of solving complex problems by digging into ambiguous, human-centered problems. You function well both independently - making well-informed research decisions on your own - and in collaboration with the UX team and cross-functional partners in product, engineering, and other disciplines. You consider yourself to be a UX research evangelist who brings a positive, collaborative, and energetic attitude to work every day. You are detail-oriented and highly-adaptive; you welcome challenges and strive for innovative, streamlined, and intuitive solutions.

What you’ll do:

  • Be a key driver in the definition and documentation of research best practices and processes for the UX team, including organization of our research repository, audit of our research tooling (and the opportunity to propose that we get new tools to advance our research!), and mentorship of fellow UX designers to advance their UX research capabilities and skills.

  • Promote and demonstrate research best practices while working through the end-to-end design thinking lifecycle from ideation and discovery to research and testing.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to help identify user pain points and translate those into highly consumable artifacts for the UX team, Product team, and larger company. Your research will be a key driving force as the UX team translates business requirements and user needs into beautiful, delightful, and usable user experiences for our marketplace, where millions of users come to shop and learn about and purchase solar and other clean energy products and services, as we are a consumer-focused company.

  • Responsible for end-to-end user research: planning, recruiting (we have some tools for this, and are open to getting new tools!), conducting user interviews, remote usability tests, surveys, card sorts, click tests, tree tests, internal company workshops, and more.

  • Lead, conduct, and analyze generative and evaluative research efforts to identify and understand customer needs and paint points, identify new feature/product opportunities, validate and discard assumptions, and assess usability of our online presence

  • Document your findings by developing artifacts (including but not limited to customer journey maps, personas, affinity maps), presentations, and other documents, and socialize them cross-functionally to provide actionable insights to improve our offerings, drive company alignment, and help spread a deeper understanding of our customers and users.

What we look for:

  • 5+ years of experience in User Experience Research or other relevant experience
  • Understanding of the end-to-end design thinking lifecycle, and ability to work through every step of it, from ideation and discovery to research
  • Fluency in research best practices
  • Proven track record of successfully executing UX research on a team and on your own
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized, execute on deliverables, and meet deadlines with little to no oversight
  • Learners, doers, and dreamers - people who like to learn and grow, people who are able to effectively complete work on time and remain focused throughout the work day and week, and people who strive for best in class, innovative designs and solutions.

Not required, but we're really happy if you have:

  • B2C / eCommerce / Comparative Shopping / Marketplace experience
  • Experience working in Scrum/Agile product development and product management environments
  • Tech startup experience
  • Mastery in Miro
  • Active member of the UX community
