Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS is collaborating with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with new groundbreaking high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. The mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. CFS has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by the world’s leading investors, CFS is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. CFS is looking for a leader to establish a Talent Management function and team of Business Partners that will form close working relationships with key functions. The lead of this group will drive strategic talent decisions and manage the business partners that will roll out those decisions to the organization. This team member will:

  • Build a team of business partners that can form strong relationships with each CFS function, coach leaders through growth and change, and provide general HR support as topics arise. 
  • Develop an organizational structure with associated job levels and titles that supports business objectives. Evolve the structure as the company grows and changes. 
  • Work with leaders to develop clear career paths for employees.
  • Work with leaders to identify key skill gaps to fill through hiring. 
  • Carry out succession planning and ensure robust pipelines for key roles.
  • Partner with leaders on talent development and employee status changes.
  • Hold talent reviews and help identify stretch and training assignments for promising employees.
  • Partner with leaders on compensation decisions during offer, internal moves, and related to retention.
  • Develop and apply best practices around employee feedback and annual compensation reviews.
  • Assist in the development and evolution of HR policies as the company grows and changes.
  • Resolve ethics cases. 
  • Champion diversity. 

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience
  • Experience in a leadership role and managing direct reports 
  • Proven ability to help leaders meet business objectives 
  • Proven ability to coach leaders through company growth and changes 
  • Proven ability to develop title, level, and org structures 
  • Impeccable ethics and discretion
  • Ability to comfortably navigate uncertainty and develop creative solutions to issues
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification a plus

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the ins and outs of shift work especially within manufacturing and engineering functions
  • Willingness to travel occasionally when required to do so
