Job Description

Twelve is a new kind of chemical company built for the climate era. Our breakthrough technology eliminates emissions by turning CO2 into essential products. We are a team of scientists, engineers and problem solvers on a mission to fundamentally shift the way the world addresses climate change and lead the transition to a fossil free future with our carbon transformation technology.

Job Brief

As a Senior Electrolyzer Engineer (cells), you will work on the team tasked with understanding the core operating principles that influence the electrochemical performance of our R&D scale devices. You will be working with a cross-functional team to optimize cell hardware compositions and develop ideal operation conditions for our CO2 conversion process. Work on your team will emphasize improving Twelve’s fundamental understanding of how components and conditions affect reactor performance, specifically pertaining to mass transport and management. As a result, your work will lay the critical foundation for Twelve’s larger commercial systems. You will participate in designing and conducting physical characterization experiments, electrochemical tests, and analyzing experimental results to guide future directions.

What you will do

  • Propose and apply optimizations to our single-cell system (e.g., hardware components, operation conditions, etc.) with a data driven approach.
  • Make calculations related to thermal, electrical and electrochemical properties within the cell.
  • Design and conduct thoughtful experiments, analyze data, and interpret experimental results.
  • Develop characterization techniques for cell components pertaining to thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and mass transport.
  • Share data with cross-functional teams and facilitate discussions to guide experimental plan.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain existing systems.
  • Guide and review experimental procedures for new and existing scale-up units.
  • Prepare presentations and report on progress at internal meetings.

Who you are

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field (Chem E or Mech E preferred) or extensive experience (5+ years) in industrial R&D relating to fuel cells and/or electrolyzers.
  • You have demonstrable hands-on experience working in a research or industrial lab.
  • You have experience working with electrochemical devices with flowing reactants.
  • You have high attention to detail and outstanding communication skills through all channels.
  • You are adept at working with cross-functional groups and multiple stakeholders.

We believe that the unique contributions of each individual is the driver of our success. To make sure that our products and culture continue to incorporate everyone's perspectives and experience we never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status.
