Job Description

Staff Accountant

RMI is seeking a Staff Accountant who will serve a key support role on the Accounting team and across the organization. Reporting to the Accounting Manager and working closely with other RMI staff in operations and programs, you will be the go-to person for journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare periodic and monthly journal entries
  • Manage the fixed asset and prepaid expenses schedules
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Ensure accuracy of the general ledger
  • Manage state compliance and reporting requirements
  • Act as administrator for RMI’s corporate credit card program
  • Build out-earned revenue proposal process and assist RMI staff with earned revenue questions
  • Serve as first reviewer for earned revenue budget proposals and assist RMI staff with earned revenue contract proposal process
  • Assist RMI staff with the annual budget and monthly forecasting process for earned revenue
  • Assist with monthly close process
  • Assist during annual financial audit
  • Serve as backup for expense report processing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, as needed
  • Assist with managing constituent records
  • Additional responsibilities, as required  

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • One to three years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
  • Detail and service-oriented with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, highly motivated, and flexible with changing deadlines and workloads
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
  • Experience using NetSuite or similar accounting system

Location 

This position will remain remote until it is safe to return to one of our offices in New York City, Washington D.C., Oakland, CA, Basalt, or Boulder, CO. This will be discussed further throughout the interview process.

Compensation 

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Staff Accountants based in the U.S. join at the minimum to mid-salary range of $63,000- $74,000. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
