What is MiQ? 

MiQ is an independent, not-for-profit foundation facilitating a rapid reduction in methane emissions from the Oil & Gas sector. MiQ has developed a unique Standard for methane emissions accounting through the full natural gas supply chain. The standard differentiates each gas molecule by its methane intensity.  MiQ pairs this robust, technical standard with a credible registry to generate, trade and retire emissions certificates. MiQ’s theory of change is that differentiated products will lead to differentiated pricing and emissions reduction as corporates strive for higher norms.  

Core Responsibilities 

  • Acquire and process data from disparate sources, including remote sensing, and maintain databases / data systems that are self-consistent  

  • Develop scripts in SQL or Python to query, analyze, and interpret data using statistical techniques 

  • Develop reporting methods, visualization tools and dashboards for analytics and insights from multivariate spatiotemporal datasets 

  • Carry out greenhouse gas emission modeling throughout the Oil & Gas supply chain   

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 2+ years of experience and a bachelor’s level degree in a quantitative subject such as computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, engineering, or data science 

  • Excellent statistics skills and a strong record of data analytics work  

  • Experience using SQL to store and manage large data sets  

  • Excellent Python skills for data analysis (Jupyter notebook, Pandas, Numpy 

  • Ability to use tools (Tableau, PowerBI) to create clear, communicative data visualizations  

  • Experience analyzing and visualizing geospatial data using ArcGIS or QGIS  

  • Excellent Python skills for data science (e.g. Scikit-Learn) or other data science languages (e.g.R) and a willingness to quickly translate those skills to Python   

  • Experience using cloud-based tools for data storage and processing (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) 

  • Experience with scalable data analysis frameworks (Apache Spark and PySpark, Hadoop, etc.)  

Location 

Positions are available for remote work, or your are welcome to work from one of RMI’s US (United States) office locations. Flexible work week options available. 

Compensation 

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
