What is MiQ? 

MiQ is an independent, not-for-profit foundation facilitating a rapid reduction in methane emissions from the Oil & Gas sector. MiQ has developed a unique Standard for methane emissions accounting through the full natural gas supply chain. The standard differentiates each gas molecule by its methane intensity.  MiQ pairs this robust, technical standard with a credible registry to generate, trade and retire emissions certificates. MiQ’s theory of change is that differentiated products will lead to differentiated pricing and emissions reduction as corporates strive for higher norms.  

Core Responsibilities 

  • Develop and manage policy collaborations with NGOs, environmental and industry-lead methane abatement coalitions, as well as inter-governmental climate initiatives 

  • Advance impactful, credible methane abatement strategy and 1.5°C alignment by connecting RMI methane research and technical expertise to US federal agencies, national environmental ministries 

  • Track opportunities for emerging or developing policy initiatives, such as carbon pricing, boarder adjustments and emissions regulation  

  • Support public utility commissions and regulated gas markets to drive emissions reductions through performance standards and certified natural gas  

  • Draft thought leadership papers, op-eds, and other subject matter materials for multi-media initiatives 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelors level degree in an applicable field such as economics, engineering, business, public policy, legal, or environmental science 

  • 7 years of relevant experience in policy/government 

  • Proven experience in dealing with legal complexities of policies and regulations, including experience working with law firms on such subjects 

  • Exceptional writing skills for both technical and general audiences  

  • Demonstrated experience at external engagement and public speaking 

Locations 

Positions are available for remote work, or you are welcome to work from one of RMI’s US (United States) office locations.  Flexible work week options available. 

Compensation 

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
