Role DescriptionForm’s Characterization as a Service Team is looking for a hands-on individual to help us develop our core technology by assessing and refining analytical methods to characterize chemical and physical properties of our active materials and components. In this role, you will enable scientists and engineers to extract critical information necessary to build a comprehensive library of structural information as it pertains to the electrochemical functionality of the system. You will identify measurement techniques for a variety of materials, creating and maintaining efficient processes to have a direct impact on the future operations of the team. You will be part of a highly cross functional team, and have the opportunity to grow your engineering and leadership skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with the Cell Development team to identify measurement techniques to assess material properties related to electrochemical functionality
  • Participate in strategy development and documentation to manage external characterization vendors to ensure timely delivery of high quality data
  • Facilitate QA/QC method development to measure physical and mechanical properties of electrode components
  • Support exploratory battery dissections to identify physical and chemical material changes due to electrochemical degradation mechanisms 
  • Implement various process improvements for existing standard analytical protocols
  • Track sample status using a cloud-based organizational tool
  • Train technicians on new SOPs 

What You'll Bring:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Materials Science or a related field
  • 2+ years experience with mechanical and material failure analysis
  • Experience developing analytical methods based on first principles
  • General knowledge of and experience with a subset of instruments including but not limited to SEM, XRD, BET, porosimetry, optical microscopy and pycnometry
  • Demonstrated ability to independently negotiate project details with internal customers and external vendors
  • Familiarity with cloud based organizational tools
  • Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization
