Software Engineering in Cruise Infrastructure builds and delivers production-grade services to meet the reliability, scalability, performance, efficiency, and security needs of Cruise’s application services. We accomplish this by mapping the requirements of Cruise-wide engineering teams (product, machine learning, developer productivity, and site reliability) and by consistently improving our services to meet these expectations.

We are seeking a manager to lead our Container Platform team. This team is responsible for Cruise-wide Kubernetes and Servicemesh production services. This team works actively with the Kubernetes open source community especially focused on Azure and GCP operators and cloud-providers.

What you’ll be doing:

• Building a high-performance engineering team and developing talent capable of scaling Cruise through a period of high growth.
• Building relationships with other engineering teams, Cruise product/AI/infrastructure engineering, product management, program management, and related groups to build and improve our growing critical infrastructure and production environments.
• Ensuring the reliability of Cruise’s services by creating and maintaining production-ready scalable operators, backend APIs, and language specific libraries for Kubernetes multi-cluster management and Istio Servicemesh.
• Motivating the team, fostering and driving a healthy, inclusive, and collaborative culture, serving as an embodiment of our values.

What you must have:

• Experience managing senior engineers, and leading teams responsible for production systems.
• 8+ years of experience in software, infrastructure, site reliability, or production engineering.
• Experience running critical systems at scale with an understanding of a wide range of infrastructure/cloud technologies especially docker, k8s, containers etc.
• Proven track record of cross-collaboration, and influencing without authority.
• Skills in leading high performers as well as performance managing those who need more help.
• Strong communication skills, the ability to advise leadership at the executive level and successfully advocate for initiatives.

Bonus points!

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services
• Experience with Kubernetes, Mesosphere, Docker, Amazon ECS, Istio, Nginx, Kubernetes open source controllers/operators.
