We’re looking for a documentary filmmaker to help bring the Cruise brand to life. As part of Cruise’s in-house creative team, you will work with a talented group of creatives and marketers to evolve and grow the Cruise brand through brilliant ideas, compelling content, and inspired storytelling across multiple channels.
Our ideal candidate is a documentary filmmaker at heart, eager to capture milestones in automotive history that are really just an ordinary day at Cruise. You are equal parts cinematographer and editor, plus can adeptly wear a producer and director hat. You would own projects from start to finish, acquire domain-expertise in the product and user, be driven by a curiosity to learn more, be comfortable navigating ambiguity, and would carve out compelling narratives. After completing discovery and strategic work, you’d move into executional mode: producing, directing, cinematography, and editing, with the support of crew and resources to plus your work.
This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Video Production and sits on the Creative team. You’d work closely with our Creative and Comms teams. We’re in the process of building out edit bays and a small studio at our SF office. We all wear a lot of hats at Cruise and are passionate about the self-driving future.
A requirement of this role is that this team member is strategically positioned close to or within San Francisco and is available to be onsite multiple times a week as needed - to be essentially “on call” to fast follow engineering gate approvals, timelines, and opportunistic storytelling moments. Cruise is happy to assist with relocation.
While the frequency of travel may increase over time, San Francisco’s 7x7 is currently Cruise’s primary operating area, so the majority of filming will take place in San Francisco in the near-term.
