We are looking for a Senior EMC/EMI Test Engineer. In this role, you will be part of the Hardware Integrity team, responsible for EMC/EMI test and validation at components, system and vehicle levels. You will work closely with electrical engineers, and our suppliers to develop and execute EMC tests in both development and production environments. You will identify testing needs, develop test methods, test plans,  and the test fixtures needed, and work closely with internal technicians and external partners to execute tests.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop EMI/EMC tests to assess and validate Cruise AV hardware and systems for emission, immunity, ESD and automotive transient.
  • For EMC tests at Cruise lab and local facilities, own test preparation, authorize test SOP, design test setup and work with technicians to execute/ oversee test executions
  • For EMC tests at remote facilities, work with design engineers to develop proper test plans, review supplier test setup, and drive supplier execution.
  • Analyze test data and collaborate with cross-functional teams on failure root cause analysis and develop mitigation options
  • Collaborate withCruise vehicle team and GM on vehicle level EMC testing. 
  • Specify equipment and maintain in-house lab as well as being liaison with third-party labs to conduct EMC and ESD testing  
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure past lessons learned and best practices are incorporated

What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related
  • 5+ years of EMC engineering experience on PCBs, connectors, cables
  • Experience with EMI/EMC test standards 
  • Strong electromagnetic (EM) theory basics; understands signal integrity basics
  • Experience in GPS, cellular, bluetooth and WIFI coexist testing
  • Experience with RF lab equipment for device characterization and component/system performance validation; CMW, channel emulators, signal generators, network analyzers, signal analyzers

 

Bonus points! 

  • Experience with autonomous vehicle sensors or compute 
  • Expertise  with automotive EMC design and test; CISPR25, ISO 11452, ISO10605, GMW3097 / 3091
  • Expertise with wireless communication compliance; LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 
  • Experience in EMC tests in a fast paced environment for both low and medium-high volume products
  • Familiarity with automotive I/O interfaces and experience with debugging high speed signal integrity and power delivery problems
