About the role:

Cruise is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help our Simulation team improve how we integrate and run autonomous vehicle software in our cloud and workstation environments.

In this position, you will work on the Simulation Platform team to build core systems and libraries that improve our simulation tools and frameworks.

Responsibilities:

• Work with engineers across Simulation, AV Frameworks, Robotics and Perception to improve integration with Simulation software 
• Continuously strive to improve the efficiency and deterministic execution of our highly parallel CPU/GPU software systems
• Design and implement core systems that improve how we launch, run and teardown the Simulation stack on a massive scale at Cruise
• Collaborate with our team to deliver features that contribute to the success of AV engineering

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications: 

• 7+ years experience developing production software
• Deep C++ knowledge with demonstrated proficiency in C++14 and above
• Strong 3D math skills 
• Domain expertise in low-level systems (e.g. file systems, job schedulers, memory allocators, network libraries), library API or platform SDK applications
• Experience working on cross-platform software
• BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
• Exceptional ability to write clean, reliable and performant software
• Ability to communicate well across teams of developers and other staff
• Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world

Bonus points! 

• Experience with RPCs (e.g. gRPC), RUDP or other network systems experience
• Prior simulation experience, especially an understanding of integrating autonomous vehicle software with simulation
