Cruise is looking for a Senior Engineering Technician to help us perform testing and diagnosis of various components. In this position, you will collaborate with Technicians and Engineers in our R&D team, with the goal of improving performance and carrying out test plans. What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead, plan, train, and review the work of staff responsible for the routine testing, experiment execution, data collection, data analysis, procedures and techniques. This includes verifying work/data accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications
  • Plan, direct, and participate in testing and experiment execution. Design, build, and iterate test fixtures and test setups as-needed.
  • Supervise the use, care, tracking, maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, including preventive maintenance and equipment calibration with internal teams, external laboratories, and vendors.
  • Ensure the devices under testing perform desired functions in a satisfactory manner.
  • Methodically inspect units to be tested, including mechanical assembly, board circuitry, and relevant wiring harness.
  • Monitor testing instruments and make vital iterative/generational improvements.
  • Perform various tasks, including assembling, calibrating, improving and performing maintenance on test equipment, parts, subassemblies, TLAs and vehicles.
  • Apply statistical methodologies to identify log test data, correlate recurring trends and provide Test Engineering and R&D Team detailed data and relevant reports.
  • Assist Engineers to bring-up products and devices under development with software and hardware
  • Directly contribute to projects supporting R&D and commercial fleet initiatives and retrofit validation.
  • Utilization of in-house tools to trace work performed by team members, manage project progression via Gantt charts, and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation libraries.
  • May focus on one or more of the following:e
  • Mechanical CAD experience with parts production, assemblies, and drawings with programs such as SolidWorks
  • Bench testing computer and sensor systems and operating test (python, shell, and others) scripts in a Linux environment
  • Building and testing custom liquid and air-cooled systems

What you must have:

  • Seven to ten years of senior level engineering technician experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to determine testing protocols, procedures, and methodologies for mechanical testing, thermal testing, and various verification, validation, and performance testing on automotive systems, consumer or industrial grade computers and servers, autonomous vehicle compute and networking systems, and/or custom optomechanical assemblies.
  • Experience writing and maintaining documentation, manage work tickets, and project schedules (Google Suite, Confluence, JIRA, SmartSheets, LucidCharts)
  • Experience performing PCB rework, component and system-level failure analysis, operating x-ray or CT systems, first article inspections, and designing, fabricating, building, modifying, and documenting thermal fluid systems.
  • Ability to work without supervision, and able to train and work with junior teammates.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis with an interest in creative out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Strong work ethic, quality workmanship, and team-oriented, with ability to pick-up new technologies
  • Strong digital literacy in Windows and Linux environments
  • MCAD experience with SolidWorks working with product lifecycle management systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical fit-checks, GD&T, and use of optical comparators
  • Understanding of thermal fluid systems components, actively-cool computer systems via forced-air and fluids
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven track record of emphasizing safety, quality of work, and technical capability
  • Ability to anticipate future issues and mitigate them before they become operational setbacks
  • Ability to juggle numerous projects, simultaneously, with ease

  • ASME GDTP (Y14.5) Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional Certification (2009 Senior Level)
