What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a bright, energetic, and adaptable Staff Accountant to join our growing Accounting and Finance team. The Staff Accountant will perform month-end closing activities including journal entry booking and account reconciliation, but should also be prepared & excited for ad hoc projects that arise in a high-growth environment with increasing accounting needs. The ideal candidate possesses technical expertise in accounting fundamentals; an ability and eagerness to work independently & take ownership of projects; and an innate intellectual curiosity that compels him/her to learn as much as possible about the nuances of our business and apply this knowledge to accounting decisions.

This role is based in Washington, D.C. and initially reports to the Senior Accounting Manager. This is a unique opportunity to quickly gain a wide breadth of experience in both the tech and energy sectors & make a real impact at a growing organization.

What you'll do:

  • Assist in the accounting department's transition from outsourced services to in-house accounting and financial reporting; design and implement processes around these newly internal accounting functions (e.g. accounts payable)
  • Assist in policy prioritization, creation, and enforcement
  • Perform month-end closing activities including booking journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts, and reviewing expenses
  • Work with other departments to ensure timely submission of invoices and to make sure sure teams are following proper accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist in monthly financial statement creation
  • Prepare audit support and analysis for year-end audit work and other reporting requirements including tax
  • Use bank portal to process accounts payable and other bank activities; coordinate with customer service team regarding customer billing requests
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of Arcadia Power's product lines and organizational structure to better fulfill our accounting and finance needs
  • Other tasks as needed

What will help you succeed:

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in corporate or public accounting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting
  • Intermediate or advanced Excel proficiency
  • Experience in accounting software suited for a medium-to-large-sized business
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate closely with other departments
  • Flexibility to reorient responsibilities in a growing tech company

 

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with tax filings 
  • CPA license or candidate
  • Sage Intacct experience
  • Experience using Bill.com or other payables software
  • Advanced Excel skills including macros
  • Experience with new lease accounting standards, Topic 842
  • Experience with tax accounting and state compliance
  • Experience with internal controls and process improvement
  • Experience with start-up/tech/energy industries
