Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS is collaborating with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with new groundbreaking high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. As an Events Specialist you will implement effective solutions to create high-impact experiences for onsite visitor tours and manages CFS exhibits at conferences and other industry events. The ideal Events Specialist is a self-starter, able to execute under pressure, work independently, and have strong problem-solving skills. 
This position will work directly with a wide range of teams in discussing event needs and goals and have ownership of end-to-end logistics and event execution for CFS tours and events. You are both creative and organized. You have strong attention to detail and are an excellent team player. You are a great communicator, in writing and verbally. You will be part of the Communications and Marketing Team working closely with the Head of Branding and Design and Operations team. You will also work cross-functionally with teams including investor relations, government affairs and business development. For offsite events, you will manage the CFS presence including but not limited to booth displays, marketing materials, posters sessions, and hosted events (dinners, receptions, etc.). You will capture learnings and insights and proactively coordinate all elements needed for events.  In this role you will also develop and manage a company-wide event tracking system. This position will be based at our Devens, MA campus.


This team member will:

  • Create and execute against project plan timeline and manage calendar of events for multiple functional teams at CFS.
  • Work as project lead, ensuring all event activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Work with stakeholders to create and manage event requirements and budgets and provide guidance in maximizing resources.
  • Coordination of marketing materials and communications needed for events.
  • Work with external vendors as needed to plan food & beverage selection, decor, conference space, audio/visual, photography, etc. to ensure high quality events that are cost efficient.
  • Create complete event plans, space assignments, minute-by-minutes, tracking documents, and other event related documents. 
  • Coordinate the purchase of event supplies and packing of shipments of materials for offsite events / conferences.
  • Travel to events as needed, including travel to CFS facilities to manage onsite event operations.
  • Review event bills for accuracy and process payments as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, plus proven experience in event management with a wide range of stakeholders, ideally including private sector executives and government officials.
  • 5+ years of event planning experience and administrative experience required.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with effective organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be a self-starter, with the ability to work well under pressure, work independently with limited supervision and have solid problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to create and manage budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • High level of creativity and "rolled up sleeves" working style.

Additional preferred experience and/or qualifications:

  • Public speaking experience is preferred.
  • PowerPoint, Excel, Google Workspaces including but not limited to Gmail, Sheets, Slides.
  • Helpful if have experience with InDesign, Adobe.
  • Ability to perform activities such as stopping, climbing, typing, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Willing to adhere to safety protocols for hazards such as heat, cold, and strong magnets.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel.
