Job Description

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable longer range, faster charging and enhanced safety in electric vehicles to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

QuantumScape is a start-up located in San Jose, California working on new energy storage technology to allow electric vehicles to outperform internal combustion cars. Our leap in energy density and charge rate is enabled by different chemistry and cell architecture which also benefits safety. Our quick progress is due in part to a state-of-the-art facility, highly automated data collection and analysis, an outstanding team, and a strong and clear set of values.
Do you want to learn about and work on this critical part of the future energy economy? As a member of the Failure Analysis team, you will be responsible for identifying, labeling, characterizing, and communicating failure modes within the broader Yield Enhancement Team. As Failure Analysis touches many facets of our product and directly influences development priorities, the position requires careful perception, a strong technical background, and strong interpersonal skills. Together, the Yield Enhancement team is responsible for integrating technologies from across the company into a device, identifying root causes for variability or failure modes, providing feedback on components, and resolving problems directly caused by the integration of the components.
What you will do:
Identify root causes for failed devices via testing, data analysis, cell disassembly, and process knowledge.
Comb through and label data to help identify trends.
Develop scalable processes for cell disassemblies and root cause analysis via both hardware and/or software solutions.
Communicate results with the broader team.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Solid understanding of science and/or engineering fundamentals.
Exposure to materials characterization techniques like microscopy or chemical analyses.
Comfort with running scripts in python.
You like solving puzzles and respond to challenges with solutions.
You are able to identify patterns across data.
You learn and adapt quickly.
You have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
You love working closely with a team in a fast-paced and energizing environment.
Minimum Requirements:
B.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience conducting experiments in a laboratory setting or participation in hands-on design projects.
You share our real passion for our mission!
