Join us.About the Position Niron is seeking a Principal Compaction Engineer for its Pilot Production facility, located in Minneapolis, MN. This Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and overseeing compaction processes for Iron Nitride (FeN) materials used in manufacturing. This role ensures that the (compact or structure) meets quality, density, and structural requirements prior to machining, contributing to product performance and consistency.The Principal Compaction Engineer will be responsible for advancing the methods and efficiency of the FeN permanent magnet compaction processes in both Pilot and full-scale Production. The role will include hands-on processing of materials, tooling, press hardware and materials delivery pre- &amp; post compaction. You will be responsible for transferring developed processes into production including process documentation and training of Press Operators &amp; Die Set-Up staff.Niron is a fast-paced environment requiring a very collaborative approach to work. A team-based mentality and agility are important.Primary Roles &amp; Responsibilities:<ul><li>Responsible for advancing the performance of iron nitride magnet compaction processes in Production through methods and tooling innovations.</li><li>Direct input to tool design.</li><li>Responsible for tool installation and set-up in the press.</li><li>Support scale-up from R&amp;D to full production, ensuring process reliability and repeatability.</li><li>Responsible for ensuring the proper operation of powder feeding systems and powder handling.</li><li>Responsible for the proper operation of the compaction cycle including robotic pick &amp; place.</li><li>Responsible for compaction tooling maintenance.</li><li>Responsible for specifying and ensuring PM for hydraulic presses.</li><li>Responsible for recognizing and troubleshooting pressed part defects.</li><li>Responsible for documenting processes in the form of Work Instructions and Forms.</li><li>Responsible for training to developed Work Instructions.</li><li>Responsible for performing all duties according to Niron’s Safety Program.</li></ul>Basic Qualifications:<ul><li>Degree in Science or engineering or related field e.g. materials science or engineering, mechanical engineering, powder metallurgy, or related field.</li><li>10+ years of industry experience in powdered metals or ceramics.</li><li>Strong background and hands-on experience in compaction of powdered metals or ceramics using high-capacity hydraulic presses.</li><li>Proficient with CAD design in SolidWorks or other modeling software applications.</li><li>Proficient with DOE and statistical and data visualization software e.g. JMP, Minitab, SQL</li><li>Flexibility to adapt to changing roles and responsibilities in accordance with the needs of a growing, fast paced, high-tech startup.</li><li>Collaborative mind-set, with strong work ethic and drive to succeed.</li><li>Strong communication skills with ability to concisely convey the meaning of data and a diligent commitment to record keeping.</li><li>Ability to self-direct and meet deadlines.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Proven project management skills.</li><li>Experience working with and characterizing magnetic materials.</li><li>Experience leading new materials manufacturing processes and transferring products from pilot to production through stage gate approach.</li></ul>Compensation:<ul><li>$155,000 - $170,000 (compensation is flexible based on experience and skill set)</li><li>Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance</li><li>Equity position in Niron via stock option grant</li><li>401k plan with company match</li><li>Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays</li><li>Mental healthcare</li><li>Short- and long-term disability and life insurance</li><li>Experience in a fun, high-performing, venture-backed startup</li></ul>
