Join our outstanding team and help shape the future of energy. Position Specific DescriptionAs a Tax Analyst specializing in Sales and Use Tax at NextEra Energy, you will serve as a key contributor to our tax compliance team, ensuring adherence to state and local tax regulations across our diverse energy portfolio. You will be responsible for preparing tax filings, conducting research and analysis, supporting audit activities, and contributing to tax automation initiatives. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in indirect taxation while supporting a leading clean-energy company's continued growth in a rapidly evolving tax landscape. You will perform financial and transactional analysis, support compliance activities, prepare tax returns and filings, and assist with process improvement initiatives. This role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic team environment while managing multiple priorities. Primary duties can include but are not limited to the following:<ul><li>Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax, municipal utility, franchise, and gross receipts tax returns for assigned jurisdictions.</li><li>Conduct tax research and analysis to support compliance decisions and business inquiries.</li><li>Monitor tax law changes and assess their potential impact on company operations.</li><li>Prepare sales and use tax registrations and license renewals.</li><li>Maintain sales tax compliance calendar and ensure timely filing deadlines are met.</li><li>Review and respond to tax notices and correspondence from taxing authorities.</li><li>Maintain exemption certificate management system and prepare certificates as needed.</li><li>Support audit activities by preparing documentation and assisting with data requests.</li><li>Perform account reconciliations and variance analysis for indirect tax accounts.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address tax implications of business transactions.</li><li>Assist with tax automation initiatives and system implementations.</li><li>Support process improvement projects to enhance compliance efficiency.</li><li>Monitor and respond to requests through the indirect tax team's support system.</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field.</li><li>Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, preferably in energy, utilities, or related industries.</li><li>Experience preparing tax returns and conducting basic tax research.</li><li>Knowledge of state and local sales and use tax regulations and compliance requirements.</li><li>SAP experience preferred; familiarity with tax software such as Vertex or Avalara a plus.</li><li>Competence in using tax research tools and databases.</li></ul> Skills &amp; Competencies:<ul><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.</li><li>Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to leverage technology for process improvements and data analytics.</li><li>Solid written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team objectives.</li><li>Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing demands.</li><li>Adaptability to changing tax laws and evolving business processes.</li><li>Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and integrity in all tax-related activities.</li><li>Demonstrated engagement and initiative in professional development and process enhancement.</li></ul>This position provides an excellent foundation for career growth within NextEra Energy's tax organization while contributing to our mission of leading the clean energy transition.
