<h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is leading the industry by introducing a revolutionary urban air mobility aircraft featuring the  innovative all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) JAS4-1 air vehicle. The Modeling and Simulation  (M&amp;S) team seeks a highly motivated engineer to help deliver the JAS4-1 vehicle to the marketplace. This role  requires a willingness to learn and develop a range of knowledge and skills that include executing tests in a  flight simulator environment, post-flight analysis, comparison of experimental data to models, and all other  tasks related to the development and validation of models for an eVTOL.  </p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Support verification and validation activities that rely on the model outputs </li> <li>Develop models for real-time simulation, performance predictions, and various analyses</li> <li>Iterate on models as new data becomes available from higher fidelity CFD methods, windtunnel, and flight test </li> <li>Develop and improve the software methods behind the modeling tools and workflows </li> <li>Document models’ correlation and validation against experimental data </li> <li>Work closely with other engineers/teams to determine the required model accuracy </li> <li>Collaborate with test pilots to improve the model fidelity based on feedback from simulator sessions </li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>B.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant discipline </li> <li>5-7 years of industry in relevant disciplines </li> <li>Experience credit considered for related advance degrees limited to 2 years for Masters and 5 years for  PhD in fields applicable to this job. </li> <li>Strong understanding of aircraft and rotorcraft aerodynamics, and flight dynamics • Experience with C++, MATLAB, Simulink, and Python </li> <li> Excellent problem-solving, software debugging, and communication skills </li> <li>Experience with configuration control and management of models </li> <li>Ability to work in groups and individually </li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Experience with surrogate models </li> <li>Strong understanding of aircraft stability and control derivatives </li> <li>Experience correlating and validating aerodynamics models using experimental data • Understanding of data fitting and data regression methods </li> <li>Previous experience working on an aviation certification program</li></ul><p> </p><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $108,000 - $144,000/yr.
