Runwise’s unique hardware and software service significantly reduces energy usage, substantially lowering costs and carbon output. As of today, Runwise’s technology takes the equivalent of 50,000 cars worth of carbon emissions off the road each year. Runwise has offices in New York and Boston but is a remote-first product/engineering company, and has been since its creation. We’re seeking a Software Engineering Manager with strong experience in Go and AWS, and at least 2 years of people management, to lead and grow a high-performing backend engineering team. In this role, you’ll balance hands-on technical leadership with coaching, mentoring, and guiding engineers to deliver scalable, reliable software. Your team’s work will directly increase our customers’ climate control savings, improve tenant comfort, and decrease carbon footprint.<h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.</li><li>Drive execution on product and infrastructure initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.</li><li>Provide hands-on technical leadership, particularly in Go and AWS serverless/cloud environments. Partner closely with product, hardware, and operations teams to define requirements, scope projects, and align technical efforts with business goals.</li><li>Ensure operational excellence by improving observability, monitoring, and alerting across our cloud and IoT infrastructure.</li><li>Contribute to scaling and optimizing our systems that process and analyze billions of data points annually.</li><li>Support career development through regular 1:1s, feedback, and performance management.
