DescriptionThe Queen's Space Engineering Team (QSET) is a large multi-disciplinary team consisting of students from all engineering disciplines, in addition to the Faculty of Arts and Science. QSET designs a prototype Mars Rover for participation in the University Rover Challenge (for more information please visit urc.marssociety.org/home).If selected as Software Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and testing of all the software systems on QSET’s Rover projects. The Software Manager is responsible for managing up to four lead executive members as well as assist leads with general members when required. They will work closely with the Rover CTO and the other technical managers to coordinate designs between subsystems. Additionally, they will also be responsible for the development of training material in preparation for the onboarding of new team members. If you require accommodations during the interview process, please contact qset @engsoc.queensu.ca.APPLY BY: September 18, 2025 at 10:00 pm ESTResponsibilities<ul><li>Lead all technical development of the computer systems of the rover.</li><li>Lead initial planning and preparing efforts to create project timelines, sub-team budgets, training material, and team resources for the software sub-team.</li><li>Attend all relevant executive team, rover executive team, and subsystems meetings.</li><li>Work with the captain, CTO, and supervisors to define specific roles and responsibilities of the supervisors.</li><li>Prepare training material as necessary to help support member onboarding and development.</li><li>Ensure all weekly sub-team meetings are organized by their respective leads and attend sub-team meetings which have components of your management positions.</li></ul>Requirements<ul><li>Excellent team management and time management skills.</li><li>Object-oriented coding experience in either C/C++ or Python.</li><li>Electronic hardware debugging skills.</li><li>General Linux experience.</li><li>Simple Bash (command line) experience.</li><li>Basic ROS experience (TF, ROSCPP, and ROSPY publisher/subscriber/services, actionlib, Gazebo).</li></ul>
