This role spans structural composites, structural bonding, metallics, coatings, electric powertrain, and FAA Part 23 certification, with a focus on innovation, reliability, and regulatory compliance.What you’ll do<ul><li>Define and maintain the overall materials and processes roadmap aligned with aircraft performance, manufacturability, and program objectives.</li><li>Lead the selection and qualification of composites, metallics, coatings, adhesives, and powertrain materials.</li><li>Define process requirements and specifications for manufacturing methods such as resin infusion, autoclave curing, structural bonding, metallic forming, and surface treatments.</li><li>Support supplier evaluation, process audits, and technical oversight to ensure quality and compliance.</li><li>Execute the materials certification strategy in coordination with the certification team.</li><li>Ensure compliance with aerospace standards such as ASTM, SAE, and MIL specifications.</li><li>Maintain familiarity with FAA policy statements, advisory circulars, and other regulatory guidance documents relevant to materials and processes.</li><li>Oversee material qualification efforts to support certification and production readiness.</li><li>Partner with propulsion, structures, design, and manufacturing teams to ensure material compatibility, performance, and system integration.</li><li>Lead FMEA and root cause analysis.</li><li>Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of engineers and specialists focused on materials and processes development, definition, and certification.</li></ul>What you’ll need<ul><li>Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.</li><li>Minimum of 15 years in aerospace materials and processes, including at least 5 years in a leadership or strategic role.</li><li>Proven experience in electric aircraft, advanced air mobility, or high-performance aerospace programs.</li><li>Direct involvement in FAA certification programs, particularly Part 23, including material qualification and compliance documentation.</li><li>Deep knowledge of composite materials (thermoset and thermoplastic), metallics (aluminum, titanium, specialty alloys), coatings, and adhesives.</li><li>Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and ability to define and validate process requirements for supplier execution.</li><li>Experience overseeing material qualification programs and documentation for regulatory approval.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams.</li><li>Excellent communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management abilities.</li><li>Strong analytical skills for trade studies, risk assessments, and failure analysis (FMEA).</li></ul>Please note that this job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position and does not include an exhaustive list of responsibilities and qualifications.At Archer we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent that possess the skills and leadership necessary to grow our business.
