This lead position will directly manage three mechanical engineers. This is a technical role, and the lead is also expected to provide some individual engineering output.  This team owns secondary structures and many of the installation drawings across the aircraft. In this role, you will be responsible for the development &amp; detailed design of structural airframe components to integrate electrical systems such as equipment and wiring. As an experienced engineer, you will also be responsible for providing guidance, technical knowledge and strategic insight to fellow team members.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Provide mentorship to members and support their career growth and development.  </li> <li>Lead and support projects through the entire development cycle from early design through certification and production. </li> <li>Create a team culture and norms (along with best practices and methods) that supports creative, efficient, and high-quality mechanical engineering.</li> <li>Demonstrate and instill a hands-on approach within the team, along with a passion for simple, elegant design and engineering. </li> <li>Generation and ownership of Installation Drawings to define installation of bracketry, equipment, and wiring into the aircraft.</li> <li>Member of Material Review Board (MRB) to address Non-Conformance Reports found during aircraft assembly. </li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Experience as a team lead, manager, or mentor of mechanical engineers </li> <li>Proven track record of leading complex projects efficiently and effectively </li> <li>8+ years of experience in a mechanical role </li> <li>B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in electrical engineering or another relevant discipline </li> <li>Excellent communication skills – able to communicate complicated technical data/concepts efficiently </li> <li>Strong analytical approach – able to use first principles to drive/inform design </li> <li>Experience with composite and metallic component/structural design and analysis</li> <li>Proficiency with CAD (Computer Aided Design) and analysis tools </li> <li>Position is located in Santa Cruz, CA onsite with occasional onsite work in Marina, CA</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Experience with Catia (v6 preferred) </li> <li>Experience taking project(s) through complete lifecycle </li> <li>Experience with aircraft structures</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $140,500 - $231,600/yr.
