This exciting opportunity is for an experienced trader to be instrumental in optimizing gas facilities in CAISO and the DSW, as well as creating and executing speculative strategies throughout WECC.The successful candidate will have a quantitative background with a proven track record both creating and executing physical flow, financial trading, and risk management strategies.You will contribute to our team by: <ul><li>Optimizing assets in the DSW and CAISO on a short-term, cash basis.</li><li>Creating speculative power and gas trading strategies for physical and financial markets.</li><li>Analyzing western power and gas markets to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.</li><li>Applying risk management practices to mitigate losses and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.</li><li>Managing relationships with counterparties, customers and brokers, including the negotiation of master agreements, EMAs and AMAs where applicable.</li><li>Monitoring hedging and trading performance, and provide reports to management.</li><li>Collaborating with Operations, Risk Management, and Finance departments to support trading activities.</li><li>Staying updated on industry developments to improve strategies and processes.</li><li></ul>What you will bring to the role:    Education: <ul><li>Degree(s) in Engineering, Physics, Math, Economics, Finance, or a related field. ​</li></ul>Experience:<ul><li>2+ years of experience in physical and financial power trading with strong knowledge of Western Interconnect physical power markets, asset optimization, and risk management.</li><li>Experience trading heat rates, locational spreads, and time spreads.</li></ul>Technical Skills: <ul><li>Proven ability to analyze large datasets, develop analytical models, and draw actionable insights.</li><li>Proficiency in relevant trading platforms and analytical tools, such as Python, SQL, and R.</li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.</li></ul>Working Conditions:<ul><li>Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.</li></ul>Additional Details:This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.In order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in Canada.The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.Capital Power employees that refer a successful candidate for this position are eligible for a $1000 Referral Reward!We believe that creating a culture that supports employees’ physical, mental, financial, and social wellbeing is critical to our success.
