<h2><strong>About the role</strong></h2><p>Muon seeks experienced candidates for the position of Data Science intern. Muon Space is building FireSat, a constellation dedicated to revolutionizing wildfire management and response. The candidate will work closely with the infrared Data Team to develop processing and analytics for the FireSat mission. The ideal candidate has a strong data science foundation, coding experience, and domain knowledge of geospatial data processing. Muon is looking for self-motivated candidates who are comfortable working with a remote team. We welcome applicants who are passionate about addressing climate change.</p><h2><strong>Responsibilities</strong></h2><p>Internship projects may include some or all of the following:</p><ul><li>Data Analysis &amp; Processing: Clean, preprocess, and analyze raw data from the FireSat IR camera and simulation to develop exquisite quality data.</li><li>Model Development: Assist in building, validating, and deploying analytical and machine learning models to improve data quality and improve derived wildfire products.</li><li>Data Visualization: Create visualizations to present findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.</li><li>Collaboration: Work embedded in the IR Data Team alongside scientists, engineers, and software developers to meet the objectives of the FireSat mission.</li><li>Research &amp; Innovation: Contribute to research initiatives aimed at advancing data science methods used by the IR Data Team.</li></ul><h2><strong>Qualifications</strong></h2><ul><li>Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.</li><li>Technical Skills:</li><ul><li>Strong programming skills in Python.</li><li>Comfortable with collaborative coding workflows; specifically, git-managed repositories, pull requests, and cloud-based virtual machine environments.</li><li>Experience with data manipulation and analysis using libraries such as pandas, numpy, and scikit-learn.</li><li>Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, ipyleaflet, QGIS).</li></ul><li>Analytical Thinking: Ability to approach problems methodically and solve complex data challenges with creative and effective solutions.</li><li>Data Experience: Experience working with messy, complicated real-world data</li><li>Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts to a diverse audience.</li><li>Passion for Climate: A strong interest in addressing climate change through the development of new technology.</li></ul><h2><strong>Nice-to-have Skills:</strong></h2><ul><li>Experience working with geospatial data processing concepts and software (geopandas, rasterio, GDAL; projections, remote sensing data)</li><li>Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).</li><li>Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.).</li><li>Experience working with remote sensing data.</li></ul><h2><span style="font-size:18pt;">Salary</span></h2><p>The hourly wage for this role is $50.</p><div><h2><span style="font-size:14pt;">About Muon Space</span></h2><p><span style="font-size:12pt;">Founded in 2021, Muon Space is an end-to-end Space Systems Provider that designs, builds, and operates LEO satellite constellations delivering mission-critical data.
