The Director of Energy Efficiency will lead WERPO’s efforts in advancing building sustainability, system optimization, and compliance with energy efficiency regulations. This role requires a strong foundation in HVAC and mechanical systems, with an emphasis on energy conservation, decarbonization strategies, and sustainable building practices. Core Responsibilities·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Lead teams performing energy audits, decarbonization feasibility studies, and retrofit implementation in large multifamily and commercial buildings.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Oversee the design and deployment of energy-efficient HVAC solutions, including electrification, heat pumps, and advanced mechanical systems.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Ensure compliance with all relevant efficiency standards and codes, including ASHRAE, EPACT 05, and Executive Order 13514.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Review construction documents and provide guidance on energy efficiency, indoor air quality, constructability, and sustainability improvements.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Provide technical training, mentorship, and oversight to engineering staff and field auditors.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Validate complex calculations, lead Measurement &amp; Verification (M&amp;V) processes, and coordinate with program administrators for quality and compliance.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Serve as a subject matter expert on sustainable building systems, advanced HVAC technologies, and energy-efficient design practices. Required profile·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related science.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 12+ years of experience in HVAC, mechanical systems, and building energy efficiency.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mandatory: Experience in Measurement &amp; Verification (M&amp;V), conducting ASHRAE Level I, II, and III audits, and working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, EPACT 05, EO 13514, and ASHRAE auditing procedures.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Minimum 5 years of management experience with proven success leading teams and projects.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Hands-on experience conducting field inspections of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Advanced understanding of energy modeling, building system optimization, and sustainable technologies.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.Preferred·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Strategic Leadership: Ability to define and execute an organizational roadmap for energy efficiency and sustainability, aligning technical solutions with compliance and long-term asset value.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Financial &amp; Incentive Strategy: Familiarity with incentive programs (NYSERDA, Con Edison, IRA tax credits, 179D) and structuring financial models (PPAs, Energy-as-a-Service).·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Policy &amp; Compliance Leadership: Deep understanding of LL84, LL87, LL97, and other regulatory frameworks in NYC and beyond.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Advanced Decarbonization Planning: Experience with electrification roadmaps, fuel switching, district energy, and resiliency strategies.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Technology &amp; Innovation: Knowledge of emerging building tech (AI-driven analytics, IoT monitoring, fault detection &amp; diagnostics, advanced M&amp;V tools).·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Software &amp; Data Proficiency: Proficiency in software platforms, data analytics, or programming (Python, R, SQL, etc.) to support AI- and ML-driven energy analysis is a strong plus.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sustainability Reporting: Experience with ESG frameworks (GRESB, CDP, ISO 50001, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager).·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Business Growth: Proven ability to identify new service lines, build partnerships, and support client acquisition/retention.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; External Leadership: Comfortable representing WERPO in industry forums, conferences, and with regulators to strengthen visibility and market position.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Change Management: Ability to guide stakeholders through adoption of new energy technologies and practices.·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Team Building: Strong mentorship skills and ability to scale high-performing, multidisciplinary teams.
